Theresa Taylor was honored recently at a banquet on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University as the Southeast Region Teacher of the Year. The Southeast Regional Professional Development Center hosted the event.

Mrs. Taylor is in her 25th year as a 9-12 high school business teacher. She currently teaches computer classes and College Readiness at Cape Central High School. In addition to teaching full time, she is the building tech support, manages the school’s social media and is the advisor for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and her Master’s Degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau Missouri . Her genuine desire to help others was the driving force behind her decision to become a teacher. Taylor works hard to build a welcoming classroom where everyone feels valued. She believes that the key to student success is building strong, meaningful relationships with them. Her passions are working to decrease the dropout rate and assisting first-generation and poverty-stricken students in their journey to college or trade school. She is also a committed lifelong learner and has attended over 70 local, state and national conferences and presented 40 times. Over the years, she has continued to keep in contact with many of her former students through social media. Hearing about their successes fills her bucket. Beyond working with students, she is always willing to offer a supportive ear to colleagues and enjoys assisting fellow staff members with technology. She has a deep-seated passion for helping new teachers discover the joy of teaching.
Taylor and her husband, David have four married children, a bonus son and 12 grandchildren.
